150 Days of Gems * A Reflection*

Each day, I would wake up and get a precious gem. There wasn't a day that they were ever the same, yet all of them were equally valuable. There came a day when I had more gems than I knew what to do with. They filled my pockets, they surrounded my feet, they consumed me. I didn't know how to clear them. I didn't know how to sort them. I didn't know how to leave them. I loved them so much. Still, each day I continued to receive each gem. Ever fatigued by the weight and quantity of them I smiled as I received them and frowned immediately after as I pondered what to do with them. I was in over my head. So, I decided to throw them away. I lamented over the loss, but I didn't know what to do with them. I valued them, and I loved them but I couldn't make them work for me. Instead I just allowed myself to be consumed, and my lack of a plan led to frustration and eventually gave way to resignation. I let my gems go. Upon giving them up, I suddenly had space to think ab...

My First Kiss Went A Little Like This

I had my first kiss when I was fourteen. For some that may be a little late but I was a duckling for a long time before I grew into the bomb shell that I am now (teehee). I had a friend during my childhood that I hung out with all the time after school. Being in her neighborhood allowed me to get to know a lot of the kids that lived there. At that age (8-10), we weren't interested in boys and so there was no reason to socialize with them. So, when my future first kiss was lighting "jumping jack" fireworks in the alley in my girlfriends neightborhood, I had no idea that there would be a fire between us just four years later. Funny how life works that way. Fast forward four years. I was fourteen and not too shabby looking. My mother told me that we were moving and lo and behold, we moved to my girlfriends old neighborhood (she had since moved out of state). I enjoyed living in the neighborhood and I enjoyed the attention I received when all of the guys that I knew when I w...

The Wiz

I decided to quit my job and go back to school. Unlike most people, my primary motivation for going back to school is not to make more money, but to finish what a started. I have embarked on numerous business ventures, books, friendships, relationships, diets (I can keep going, but I think you can get the point), only to fail because I didn't finish what I started. What's even more ridiculous is that legitimate interest has been taken with each of my "bright idea's" and I still never managed to bring my goals to the finish line. The catalyst for most of my business plans was an extreme sense of discontentment in my life. As I would wait tables, or screen applicants, or break up for what seemed like the hundredth time, I would dream of a day of doing something I actually wanted to do as opposed to what landed in my lap. Granted that at some point, most of the things I have done were what I wanted at that particular moment, however not many of them were a part of my...
